Lisa Feldman Barrett, Ph.D., is professor in the department of Psychology at Boston College[1] in Boston, and an Associate in Research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.Dr. Barrett is the director of the Interdisciplinary Affective Science Laboratory.

Dr. Barrett is a social psychologist and researcher specializing in affective science and human emotion.[2][3][4] At the beginning of her career, Dr. Barrett's research focused on the structure of affect, having developed experience-sampling methods[5] and software to study emotional experience. Dr. Barrett and members at IASL now taking a broader approach, studying the nature of emotion from social-psychological, psychophysiological, cognitive science, and neuroscience perspectives, and takes inspiration from anthropology, philosophy, and linguistics. They are also starting to explore the role of emotion in other psychological phenomena, like vision.

In 2006, she received a Career Trajectory Award from the Society for Experimental Social Psychology for her work in emotion.[6] She is also a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science,[7] the American Psychological Association, and theSociety for Personality and Social Psychology. In 2007, Dr. Barrett received an NIH Director's Pioneer Award from the National Institutes of Health.[8]. In 2008, Dr. Barrett was a Kavli Fellow in the Frontiers of Science Program[9] sponsored by the US National Academy of Sciences[10]. In 2009, Dr. Barrett was elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science[11] American Association for the Advancement of Science." Along with James Russell, she is the founding editor-in-chief of the journal Emotion Review[12].

Dr. Barrett was born 1963 in Toronto, Canada.
