What is SPSS?
- SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is one of the most widely used software programs for analyzing data (Wikipedia has good pages about listing of all statistical programs and descriptive comparison of each.
- SPSS is organized around base software (e.g., basic statistical techniques like frequencies, means, t-test, ANOVA, nonparametric, linear regression, factor analysis, etc.) with additional add-on modules (e.g., regression models, multivariate models, classification trees, etc.)
- SPSS is considered by some to be more user-friendly because it uses pull-down menus instead of command syntax such as SAS (e.g., in SPSS the pull-down menus activate the command syntax which is running in the background.
